Clean coal

20 % of carbon dioxide released into the world comes from central heating and electricity. Climate protection is one of the greatest challenges for energy companies and is also one of the major commitments of E.ON. The Group intends to protect the environment while providing energy accessible to all.

Thus, E.ON is investing in technologies with low CO2 emissions (natural gas and wind) and develops clean coal projects from CCS technology (CO2 capture and storage). Its R&D focuses on procedures to separate CO2 formed during the combustion of fossil fuels. Several sites are experimenting with various substances and procedures to remove CO2. All new coal plants are already adapted to receive CO2 separation equipment which is currently being developed.
